Make your business better.

I just read a blog post from Seth Godin titled, If you could meet one person... The idea is: if you could meet one person that would help your business, who would it be?

It's very close to those New Year's Resolutions. So, I'd like to make it even easier. It can be one person or one thing that you could do to help your business.

So what did you come up with?

My friend and strategic partner, Frank Damelio of Target Intellect, sent me an email about a conversation with one of his clients. His client said:

Would you waterski in November?

Do you know what the temperature normally is in Massachusetts the morning after Thanksgiving? Could you guess the temperature of the water? View the video to see pictures of us waterskiing on November 28, 2008.

How many of you think we are nuts? Are you going to remember that I have a passion for waterskiing with my friends such that we would get in COLD water just for fun?

Are you smarter than a kindergartner?

We just celebrated my daughter's birthday this weekend. After her friends left she said, "Wow, my friends really know what I like." Reflect on that comment for a moment.

Isn't that our goal with our customers? (Don't forget, we all have internal and external customers. Some pay the bills and others help to get the job done. They're equally important if your goal is to enjoy life.) Just like we get to chose our friends, we also get to chose our customers. We chose how to treat our friends - just like our customers.

Instant gratification is our culture

This week I spoke with two 15 year olds that were texting constantly during their family time and dinner. I asked them, "Is this a constant part of your life, and do you get mad if someone doesn't reply right away?" There was an immediate reaction & resounding, "YES!" We live in an instant gratification world these days, and it's only going to get worse. In our constant quest for continuous improvement, I guess the first to adapt to this audience wins.

Are you leaving money on the trade show floor?

There are many strategies to consider when exhibiting. A recent potential client has two meeting rooms designed into their large trade show display. They are measuring the success of the show on how many meetings they have - period. These meetings are supposed to all be booked before the show starts.

If they don't book all of the meetings they want, are they going to skip the show because they know it's a failure? If all you care about are the sales meetings, why not just rent a hospitality suite? That is certainly a considerably smaller budget than exhibiting.

I just need a trade show display - right?

I apologize for the attached video as a shameless plug. The intent of my blog is to provide knowledge and facilitate conversation, not pitch. That said, it has merit. I was at a show today that had an overwhelming number of exhibitors with poorly designed booths. The booths clearly were not designed to assist the staff in communicating the value of doing business with them.
What is Messaging?

Many people are confused by what is "messaging." This video explains what messaging is and why it is so important.

If you still are not clear, or have any questions, just email or call.

Get them ready to listen

I recently signed up to Seth Godin's blog. He wrote Purple Cow. One of the first articles I read was Are they ready to listen? In this article he points out that:

Most people, most of the time, steadfastly refuse to pay attention.
